Ouch!!!

December 13, 2009
We had just gotten home from our week stay in Park City.  We had only been home long enough to unload the cars.  The kids were in the playroom, Pat was out shoveling snow, and I was unpacking our suitcases.  All of a sudden I hear Landen scream and I ran out to the front room and he comes running in and this is what I see!

I knew that it was broken.  I started yelling for Pat and he comes running down the stairs. Poor Alyssa is wondering what in the word is going on.  She hadn't seen what happened and didn't know how he broke it and Landen was crying to hard to tell us.  We rushed to the E.R. and luckily they took us right back.  The whole time Landen is crying, and all I could think was how sick his arm looked.  They finally came to give him some pain meds, but getting the i.v was almost as bad as him breaking his arm.  Luckily neither one of us passed out (I guess that happens often).  After several attempts, and a lot of crying they finally got the drugs in him and he fell asleep.

This is when we took some pictures, because what is a great story without the pictures to go along with it.  They took some x-rays and the Doc said it just need to be set and we were good to go.  He explained that they would sedate him, but he would not be completely out so he would still feel it a little, but not remember it.  I asked if I could be sedated too because I didn't want to remember it either, but I guess that's not really allowed.  He finally set it, and yes I think he did feel it based the crying, but luckily another set of x-rays showed that everything was were it should be and they didn't have to do it again.  He calmed down pretty quickly, they put a splint and a sling on him and we were able to go home.

When we got home Landen kept telling everyone that he broke his arm, but the doctor fixed it.  We finally got out of him that he had fallen off the stairs in the castle in the playroom.  He just sat on our bed being a very brave little boy.  He has kept his arm elevated and let us ice it.  I think this might be the drugs, but he doesn't seem too upset.  I think he is enjoying all the cartoons he is getting to watch.

The doc said it was a simple fracture and should heal really well especially because he is young. We have to go back to the doctor tomorrow and when the swelling has gone down in a few days he will get a cast.  Until then he has to wear the splint and sling, I am still wondering how I am going to keep that on a three year old.  All in all he is doing really well, I am not sure that his parents handled it as well as he did.    I think I may have lost a few years off my life.

The Tooth Fairy!

December 6, 2009
So Alyssa's two bottom teeth had been loose for a few weeks.  We kept telling her to play with them and wiggle them so that they would fall out and the tooth fairy could come.  They kept getting looser little by little and we had several attempts at "pulling" them with tissue, but they are slippery little buggers and we could never get a good grip.  If you know Alyssa, you know that she is a drama queen, and pretty terrified of most everything.  We let them go thinking that eventually they would just fall out, but her new tooth started growing in behind the loose one so we decided that action had to be taken.
Grandpa saw how loose these teeth were on this particular day and decided that he could do the job. (Dad was gone with the scouts).  You see here that she is friends with the pliers, but the teery eyes tell the whole story.  We were going to try and trick her and tell her to close her eyes and we could just pull them, but of course that didn't work so well.  She caught sight of the pliers and it was a mess from there.  We finally convinced her to let us try (I am not really sure how we did that).  She was great though once she was convinced.  She sat there very still and didn't even cry.  When we pulled it she just said "that wasn't so bad."

You would think that she would be fine when we went to do the next one, but it took another round of fits, crying, and tears before she let us do it again.

I have to say that really she did better than I thought she would.  I thought we were going to have to hold her down, but she very bravely sat there and and didn't cry once we had her convinced.  Now she has two dollars instead of her two teeth.

Landen's 3rd B-Day

I Can't believe that my baby is 3 years old.  He has gotten so big and is so smart and fun.  He loves anything that has to do with motorcycles, four-wheelers, or basketball.  He is very particular about what he will wear.  He will only wear clothes that have anything to do with these things.  His shoes have to be "fast"shoes, meaning skateboardish kinds.  We can trick him into wearing other kinds if we tell him that they are basketball shoes, but it takes a lot of convincing.
We had just a small party with family and Ryan, Mindy and their kids.  Landen loved being sang to and was very excited to blow out the candle.

He wanted a basketball cake.  We were going to have wal-mart make one, but decided we could do just as good a job as them.  So here is the finished product.  I think it turned out great!

Of course there is always a little trial and error in everything, right!?!  This was my first attempt, I tried to take it out of the pan before it had cooled and it turned into this mess.  It might not have been so bad, but I was ticked off so I may have karate chopped it a few times. Alyssa said it still tasted good with frosting.

We are so glad to have Landen in our lives.  He is such a sweet, loving boy.  He is definitely all boy and we love him for it.  He is so silly, and loves to make us laugh.  He has a great sense of humor and likes to play jokes on you and then say "I'm just teasing".
Happy Birthday Landen!!

First Day of School

Alyssa was so excited to start 1st grade this year.

She loves getting new clothes and a new backpack.

She really wanted to get Mr. Averett because he did a funny gummy bear song and dance when they visited in kindergarten.  She was so excited when she did get him.

I can't believe that she is in 1st grade.  She has grown up so fast.

Huff Reunion Aug. 2009

The Huff Reunion was once again held at Little Bear Creek Campground up Huntington Canyon.  The kids and I went up for the day.  They had lots of fun things going on.   Face painting, rock painting, scavenger hunts, and of course washer toss and horse shoe tournaments.

Alyssa loved having her face painted, but I couldn't get Landen to even try it.
Sitting around waiting for our turn at washer toss.  My team lost out in the second game.  Ron was my partner this year, and I really thought we stood a chance, turns out we both sucked!

The Fish pond is always a hit.

All the cousins sitting together and checking out their loot.  We really had fun, I always look forward to this reunion every year.

Lake Powell 2009

Lake Powell with Ryan and Mindy was so much fun this year.  We stayed on their houseboat for 4 days enjoying the sun, sand, and of coarse the water.

This was on our way to meet up with them.  Notice how no one is bright red or exhausted looking yet.
The kids dug this hole and filled it with water to keep their caught fish.  They managed to catch 2 carp and kept them in this hole, until they realized that the black plastic and small amount of water was actually cooking the fish.  I think that they let them go in time, and they probably survived.  (That is more than I can say for the fish that ate Pat's fire cracker pig-in-the blanket)  the kids thought that was great.

We did a lot of surfing when the water was too choppy for wakeboarding.
Pat decided that once he was a pro at riding on his feet, he was going to try sitting on the board instead.  It did work once, he was able to ride for a little while without the rope.  It was a lot more fun watching him try though.

Landen learned how to swim with his "big boy" life jacket.

He loved it.  He learned that he could swim away from us, and he thought that was great.

Alyssa has always been our little fish.  I think that the kids spent 95% of their time in the water.  From the moment they woke up, until we drug them in at night they were in it.  They had so much fun.

The trip was great, no one was really sunburned at all, and the weather was great until the last day when we were trying to dock the houseboat.  The wind was terrible and another houseboat almost crashed into us as we were unloading everything, but still we had a great time.

Little Dude

I wanted to do a post all about Landen.  He is such a cute loving little boy.  He is also a really big daddy's boy.   Seriously, if Pat is around he really wants nothing to do with me.  I think that he has forgotten that I gave birth to him and nursed him for 14 months!!!  But Pat has been gone to scout camp and I have had him all to myself.

He has been so sweet and cuddly.  Although he does sleep better in his own bed when Pat is gone.  Even when he woke up in the middle of the night he wanted me to come lay in his bed, instead of being in mine.  I thought that he was asleep and I snuck out, only to have him come in a few minutes later and tell me to come back to his bed and not leave again!

He even told me that I was his best friend buddy!  And he gives me a kiss every morning instead of waking up and asking where daddy is and then telling me to get away from him when I say daddy is at work.

He really is a sweet boy.  He loves to gives hugs to everybody.  He gives all the coaches hugs when we get to gymnastics, and one of the parents told me that he gave her baby a kiss the other day.  She thought he was so cute!

This is typical Landen.  He always has a four-wheeler, motorcycle, monster truck, or car in his hands (or 2 or 3).  His favorite is his Lightining McQueen.  He even sleeps with it.  It has been a great bribe for potty training, which he is doing really well at.  He pees in the potty great as long as he is in underwear, but sometimes he tells me he wants a diaper.  We have pull ups, but he tells me that those are just pull-up diapers.  We are still working on the pooping issue.
Landen loves babies, even the ones that are only a little younger than him and almost his size. He loves to hold babies and gives them cute kisses on the head.  Then he tells me "this baby likes me!"

I have to say that I have the cutest little boy in the world, and one of the sweetest.  I think that I need Pat to leave more often so that I can have this time with him when he actually likes me.

Summer Time

Thought I would take a minute to give a quick update, sorry no pictures.  We have done quite a bit this summer, Lake Powell with the Branches, so much fun, but I was a dork and didn't bring my camera.  We have gone to Huntington and Joes Valley several times (what can I say, we like to boat).  Again, I didn't take any pictures.  Gymnastics has taken up a lot of time, but I love it so I can't complain.  We are going to have a break after this week before the fall session start, so maybe I will get some blogging done!  Mostly we have just been playing and enjoying the summer before Alyssa goes back to school (and we actually have to have a bed time!)

Atwood Reunion

June 27, 2009
The Atwood Reunion was at the South Park in Price this year.  They had a sand volleyball court, a nice play area for the kids, great food and lots of family to visit with.  The best part was the water slide for the kids.

Alyssa loved the water slide, we couldn't get her off it to eat.

Landen did go down the slide, but he didn't love it.  I took him up to the top and Pat caught him at the bottom.  He was so mad at me that he wouldn't talk to me for awhile after.  I guess it served me right that one of the kids pushed me as I was climbing back down and I got soaked.

He decided later that he wanted to try again. That time pat took him up and I caught him.  He seemed to like me better that way.

Landen and Corban had fun in the little pool, where there were less big kids to run them over.

Landen made this cute hat, but he wanted to use it as a bib.

Just hanging out together.

Earlier in the day, Bruce decided it would be funny to throw Heather in the pool.  All the guys decided to get revenge, and ganged up on Bruce to throw him in!  It was great to see all the young guys working together to get him in.

There were tons of people that showed up.  It was so nice to visit with everyone and see everyone again.  Our family is growing so much and it is great to see all the new babies.  We love to catch up on what is going on with everyone and just have a good time.

I just want you all to know that the dance recital post took forever to do.  So I hope you all enjoy it, and I hope I do not have to do that many videos in a post again.

June 6, 2009 Dance Recital "True Colors"

Alyssa had so much fun at her dance recital.  She seems to like it a lot better when she is all dressed up in her costumes.

I put these curlers in Alyssa's hair that morning.  She hates these curlers, but they make her hair so cute!  At least I didn't make her sleep in them this time.  She went around all day like this and she kept telling me that she looked "ridiculous".  I think she looked pretty cute.

Her first dance was L.O.V.E

Posing with Cheyanne!

Alyssa's next dance was "It's Not Easy Being Green".  I had not seen this dance before the recital, it was their newest one.  It turned out pretty cute.  I think these costumes were super cute too!

Her last dance was "Forever In Blue Jeans"  I think this one was my favorite!  She looked so cute shaking her booty, and the costumes were so cute.

The mom's dance ended up being a big hit.  We had so much fun at the practices, but we weren't sure how things were going to turn out.  It was great, and us mom's had a blast!

Yes, that is me and Mindy flipping at the end!  We've still got it.
